Welcome to the Dental Board of South Australia

The Dental Board of South Australia is the statutory body in South Australia responsible to Parliament for the administration of the Dental Practice Act 2001, which provides for the registration of dental practitioners (dentists, specialists, dental prosthetists, dental hygienists, dental therapists, dental technicians) and dental students.

The Board is responsible for:

  • protecting the public from unqualified persons;
  • regulating the practice of dentistry in the public interest;
  • approving courses of education or training that provide qualifications for registration as a dental practitioner under the Act;
  • establishing and maintaining registers of person qualified to provide dental treatment;
  • preparing and endorsing codes of conduct and professional standards for dental practitioners and dental students.

REGULATIONS UPDATE

The Dental Practice Act Regulations came into effect on 1 July 2009.

The Board has not received formal notification of the new Regulations from the Minister for Health and did not know in advance they were to be promulgated.

We understand from the Department of Health that further negotiations, presumably including the Board, will be necessary before the new Regulations can have any practical effect.

In the interim, any questions about the Regulations should be directed to the Department of Health.

We will publish on this website any further relevant information that we receive.
